The South African Parliament on Thursday unanimously passed a bill that would relax some restrictions on abortion, Reuters reports. The legal changes would provide for 24-hour abortion facilities; eliminate preapproval processes; and allow all nurses rather than just midwives to perform the procedure.

Two recently published opinion pieces said that Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) would appoint conservative justices to the Supreme Court if he were elected president. Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference Thursday, McCain reiterated his opposition to abortion rights and said he would appoint strict constructionist judges to the Supreme Court.
